Alabama's Early Care & Education System Map
Alabama's Early Care & Education System Map will provide stakeholders with a critical tool for achieving a more complete understanding of the existing services and resources delivery at both the state and local level.  The process, conducted by Colin Newlin of Braintree Solution Consulting, was spearheaded by the Alabama Partnership for Children, Inc. (APC) through a grant from the Smart Start National Technical Assistance Center in North Carolina.

Outcomes of the System Mapping Process, which involved research, interviews, periodic consultations, site visits, and collaborative
sessions are:

       • A clear articulation of the relationship between federal-state-regional-local resources

To improve overall understanding of how early care and education works in Alabama

To yield greater efficiency and effectiveness of programmatic and financial management
To empower stakeholders to develop plans for leveraging public and private resources

A steering committee was formed to plan and oversee the project, which consisted of representatives from the Alabama Partnership for Children (lead agency), Alabama's Early Intervention System (Dept. of Rehabilitation Services), Children's Trust Fund, department of Children's Affairs, Department of Human Resources, Healthy Child Care Alabama (Dept. of Public Health), and VOICES for Alabama's Children.

2002 Alabama Child Care Workforce Study
The 2002 Alabama Child Care Workforce Study, released in April 2003, provides baseline data about the education and training levels, effectiveness, and stability of the child care workforce in Alabama.  This report is a compilation of a comprehensive survey that was sent to Alabama child care center directors, teachers, and family day care providers.  It is our plan to establish a mechanism to obtain updated information annually so that we can measure the impact of T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® and other programs in Alabama.
