Read to your child!
One of the most important skills parents teach children is how to communicate - how to speak, listen, and to read. By reading aloud to your children you are teaching them all of these skills. Reading to young children also expands their vocabulary, improves memory, and allows them to practice listening skills.  Be sure to read often to your child - what happens in the first few years of life can make a difference for a lifetime!

Reading Tips:
Ask the librarian to help you and your child choose books.
Read your child’s favorite books together again and again.
Act out the story – create a different voice for each character.

Sing or chant nursery rhymes and other poems.  Children love rhythm, rhyme and repetition.
Find books to match your child’s interests.
Use books to help talk about difficult topics.
